S'éclipser | Phases of Resilience, présentée dans le cadre du festival HTMlles, reprend le motif de la métamorphose dans une perspective technocritique et écoféministe. Les trois œuvres réunies donnent à voir des créatures hybrides, proposent des transformations ou des déformations et invitent ainsi à imaginer de nouvelles configurations matérielles et symboliques pour notre présent précaire. Ces métamorphoses agissent comme des écrans qui réfléchissent tout autant qu'elles protègent; elles reposent sur le principe d’une disparition nécessaire à la (re)poétisation du monde, un retrait calculé qui laisse place à d’autres agentivités résilientes. Dans Mex and the animals d’Elisa Gleize, Mother_Protect_Me de Joselyn McDonald et Becoming Illegible de Sarah Friend, la simulation, la distorsion et l’abstraction sont autant d’opérations qui interrogent ou mettent à mal le sujet humain universel, son image, ainsi que les systèmes androcentrique et anthropocentrique qui le soutiennent. Les œuvres ouvrent des espaces de vie, d’espoir et d’opposition et elles reflètent, comme dans un miroir déformant, la fragilité du monde et de ses structures en vue d’inspirer de subtiles insoumissions. S’éclipser | Phases of Resilience est synchronisée avec les heures d’ensoleillement de la ville de Montréal. Le site web de l’exposition est hébergé sur un Raspberry Pi d’une capacité de 8 Go. La visibilité des œuvres et l’accès à l’exposition sont dès lors arrimés aux conditions climatiques ambiantes et soumis à ces restrictions technologiques afin de réduire de manière conséquente son empreinte écologique.

S’éclipser | Phases of Resilience, presented as part of the HTMlles Festival, calls on the motif of metamorphosis through a technocritical and ecofeminist perspective. The three artworks bring to light hybrid creatures, propose transformations or deformations, and invite us to imagine new material and symbolic configurations of our precarious present. These metamorphoses act as screens for our protection and active reflection, based on the principle of a disappearance necessary to the (re)poetization of the world, a calculated step back that leaves room for other resilient agencies. In Mex and the animals by Elisa Gleize, Mother_Protect_Me by Joselyn McDonald and Becoming Illegible by Sarah Friend, simulation, distortion, and abstraction question and challenge the universal human subject, its image, as well as the androcentric and anthropocentric systems on which it depends. The artworks create spaces of life, hope and opposition, reflecting the world’s fragility and structures like a distorting mirror in order to inspire subtle disobedience. S’éclipser | Phases of Resilience is synchronized with Montreal’s sunlight hours. The exhibition web site is hosted on a Raspberry Pi with a capacity of 8 GB. The visibility of the artworks and the access to the exhibition are thus tied to local weather conditions and to technological restrictions in an effort to significantly reduce the exhibition’s carbon footprint.

In addition to the artworks presented at the cardinal points, there is a page dedicated to mediation in the South. It includes the exhibition catalog - in HTML and downloadable .txt format -, four audio files gathering the voices of the three artists on four subjects and themes related to the exhibition and the HTMlles festival - eco-feminism, digital, slow tech, and the future -, as well as a text explaining our approach during the conception of the site. On this point, and as announced in the transparent box upon arrival on the exhibition site, S'éclipser | Phases of Resilience is hosted on a Raspberry Pi with a capacity of 8 GB. These technical constraints act on the resolution of the website and can slow down access to content. All the information can be found in the catalog.txt file attached to this page.
